Thread forming taps cold form rather than cut threads. The advantage of this type of tapping includes no chips and higher quality threads. Forming taps require a larger drill tap size than cutting taps because the material flows during the thread forming process. It is good to experiment with different drill sizes in different materials to produce the ideal percent of thread. Countersinking before you use a form tap is also recommended because the forming process displaces material over the mouth of the tapped hole.
These taps are available in bright and TIN in plug and bottom chamfers. |
