These premium micrograin carbide end mills provide a compromise between the chip capacity of two flute end mills and the stength of four flute tools. The high helix angle keeps the cutting edge constantly engaged in the workpiece reducing load variations. The end result is efficient cut action with reduced resistance, better chip control, improved surface finish, and long tool life. These are great for difficult to machine materials like stainless steel, alloy steels, titanium, and inconel. The center cutting end allows for plunging into solid material.
Titanium nitride - This is a great general purpose coating for a wide range of applications. The increased hardness and wear resistance can be utilized when cutting; carbon steel, high tensile steel, and stainless steel.
Titanium carbonitride - Compared to TIN coating TiCN tools are 30% harder for increased wear resistance and toughness. It has a lower oxidation temperature so coolant must be applied when used. TiCN works great in abrasive materials like cast iron, high silicon aluminum, and copper.
Titanium aluminum nitride - For dry machining TiALN cutters are the best choice. This is because the tool forms a hard aluminum oxide layer and deflects the heat back into the chip. This allows for higher feeds and speed in thermal stress applications. Use TiALN cutters for high strength steels, hard die steels, and high temperature alloys.
